| Christmas break at home was thoroughly wonderful. I got to sleep late, watch cable TV, eat more food than really necessary--all critical elements of a proper vacation at Mom and Dad's. But there were also people to see and things to do. Mom asked me to make some beanies for her to take to Guatemala in February, so I dragged out the yarn remnants that I left behind when I moved and got to work, though using the word "work" here is completely inaccurate....some form of the yarn arts was at the top of my vacation to-do list. We spent Christmas Day with the cousins: a full house with the traditional excess of fantastic food, poker and board games, and a gift exchange. And snow. That's right, a white Christmas. For New Year's, I borrowed the car and went to Oregon. I spent a few days in Eugene visiting friends and then met up with Libby and Jonathan and the Asai clan in Portland for the now-annual New Year's snowshoeing excursion. The next day, I invited myself along to breakfast with Libby, Jonathan and Jessa, thus accidentally foiling the plan to kidnap me for my birthday to a fabulous bakery/coffeeshop in NW Portland. They still got to sing to me in public, so all was not lost.
The number one question of my vacation: "How do you like Baltimore?". My typical response was, "It's alright, but I wish I was home." So I started trying to think of good things to say about Baltimore to try to redeem it. I drew a blank. I realized that I spent so much time studying last semester that I didn't take any time to get to know Baltimore. So I've decided to do more adventuring. Nothing extravagant, mind you--this is me, after all. But I do have a list (yow!). So far I've gone swing dancing, taken the metro into Washington to see an Ansel Adams exhibit, been to the Waverly Farmer's Market down the street, you get the idea.
So stay tuned, readers. You never know what I might do next. : )

| (You have to sing it in harmony a la "White Christmas". Trust me....it's a classic for a reason. : ) ) While Western Washington is apparently being washed away, we're getting the first snow of the season--my first Maryland snow! No one thinks it will stick, but I remain optimistic. I'm a child at heart, as they say. At least that's what I told the guy I hit with a snowball this morning. So, family, when you're ready to take a break from building the ark, take a look at snow in the city: 39th St, in front of my house
